What is this website?
This website is meant to be a "digital bulletin board" for UWaterloo. Similar to the poster boards across the university, but digital, free for all to view and post, with zero tracking or personalizations.
Why does this exist?
Just a fun experiment to test out a unique way to share details about what is going on in and around campus.
Is this the final website?
This is currently a beta test. Some things might break or not behave like expected. Any feedback collected will be used to update the website towards the end of December 2025, after which a new and improved version will be deployed in 2026.
Who can submit a poster?
As of now, anyone can submit a poster, provided that it is (in some way) relevant to UWaterloo or otherwise appeals to students. However, there will likely be a quota for non-university-related companies and organizations' posters in the future.
How do I submit a poster?
All submissions are handled via our form. Please visit uwboard.ca/post to submit a poster.
How long can my poster be visible for?
The standard options are 1 week (minimum), 2 weeks, and 1 month. If you would like to have a poster published for longer than this, please indicate so in the form. Approvals for this are handled on a case-by-case basis. If your extended posting request is declined, your poster will still be posted for 1 month.
What are the different poster sizes?
We offer four fixed sizes: Large (1600x2500), Half (200x1200), Quarter (800x1200), and Micro (600x600). You can provide a file of the exact dimensions for your preferred size, or provide your raw file and we will resize / crop it as needed.
How quickly will my poster be posted?
Posters are updated in batches. Every week, posters are refreshed (expired posters removed and new posters added). However, in some cases, posters may be added early if a slot is available.
What all posters are allowed?
TLDR: Must be related to university or relevant to students, must not be sexually explicit or advertise age-restricted events or products, can not advertise anything illegal, and must be in English. Up to date posting rules are available in the form linked above.
Does it cost any money to post?
As of now, all submissions are completely free, regardless of whether you are university affiliated or not. This policy will remain until at least EOY 2025.
Do you plan to charge money in the future?
Yes, but not to everyone. When the new version of the website is deployed in 2026, any posters from for-profit private businesses (like ads for housing, restaurants, stores, etc.) will be asked to pay a fee to offset the operational costs of the website. University affiliated clubs, students, and non-profits will always be able to post for free, although a fee may be charged for long-term (more than a month) postings.
